Creativity isn’t just art. It’s medicine. It reduces stress (cortisol), increases dopamine and serotonin and makes you feel so so good! And while you're at it you're crafting new pathways in your brain. Pretty cool!Creativity isn’t about perfection it’s about presence. And playing like a kid again is one of the highest states of being.

“I love the safe and playful environment. Tandi guides you with really great instructions that are not difficult to follow at all. I’m excited to come to more workshops.”
“Every adult needs PLAYNTING in their life! Tandi is a confident guide who put me at ease while opening myself up to a new style of art making. She helped me get out of my head, quiet my inner critic, and create without fear. I was delighted to make my first hand-painted booklet, which I filled with poems, as a raw expression of my heart. As a longtime painter, it was a wonderful relief to be led through a new exercise that got me out of the default mode and expanded my creative range. I was completely lost in the creative process, playing, experimenting, having fun, and finding delight in the beautiful artifact I took home. It came at the perfect time as I was processing some deep emotions; taking time to make something with my hands was cathartic and therapeutic. Tandi has a true gift for unleashing the inner child within every artist.”
“It’s about the experience of creating, tapping into parts of your brain and imagination that rarely get used, and allowing yourself the freedom to simply express.”
“I had so much energy! I found myself being very present in what we were doing and it truly did feel like play.
I felt so free to creatively express myself in a non judgmental environment and that let me access parts of myself that I don’t always feel I can access.
It’s perfect for people who are beginners as much as it is for someone more seasoned.
I absolutely loved the experience you provided Tandi, the way the studio was set up, having everything out on the table was so visually appealing. I’m so thrilled you designed something like this!”
When you create...
Magic and Science Happen at the Same Time
You know that feeling when you’re deep in a creative flow and it’s like the ideas are coming through you rather than from you? Like you’re tapping into something that was already there, just waiting to be discovered?
Here’s the cool part: you don’t have to choose between the science of what’s happening in your brain and that bigger sense of tapping into something beyond yourself. They’re both real. They’re both happening. And they work together beautifully.
Your Brain is Changing
When you engage in creative activities, something remarkable occurs on multiple levels at once.
On the physical level, your brain is literally rewiring itself through neuroplasticity. Think of it like this: your brain is creating new pathways, like trails through a forest. The more you walk them, the clearer they become.
This releases dopamine—that chemical that makes you feel good and want to keep going. It’s your brain’s way of saying “yes, more of this!”
But There’s More to the Story
Here’s where it gets interesting. What if all that brain rewiring isn’t just randomly happening? What if your brain is actually learning to tune in to something—like a radio finding the right station?
Maybe consciousness isn’t something your brain creates. Maybe it’s something your brain receives. And when you create, you’re upgrading your receiver to pick up frequencies you couldn’t access before.
Both things are true at once. Your brain is physically changing, and you’re opening yourself up to inspiration and ideas that feel like they come from somewhere beyond your everyday thoughts.
What This Means for How You Feel
When you’re in creative flow, a few things happen:
Your inner critic quiets down. That voice that usually worries and judges takes a tea break.
Your stress melts away. Your body literally produces less stress hormones. You feel calmer, more balanced.
You process emotions in ways words can’t touch. Sometimes you don’t even know what you’re feeling until you paint it, dance it, or write it.
And sometimes—maybe you’ve noticed this—the ideas that come through surprise even you. Like they’re wiser than your regular thinking. That’s because you’re not just pulling from your conscious mind. You’re tapping into something larger.
When You Get Stuck
Creative blocks aren’t a sign you’re broken or not talented enough. They just mean your signal got fuzzy.
Sometimes you need to step away. Take a walk. Sleep on it. Not because you’re avoiding work, but because your whole system needs to recalibrate. Your brain needs rest to build those new pathways, and your “receiver” needs space to clear the static.
The ideas are still there. You just need to find your way back to the frequency.
Why Practice Matters
The more you create, the easier it gets. Not just because you’re building skills, but because:
Your brain gets better at making those creative connections. The pathways get stronger.
And you get better at tuning in. You learn what helps you access that flow state. You recognize the feeling of being “on frequency.” It’s like exercising a muscle and learning to listen at the same time.
Here’s What I Want You to Know
You don’t need to understand exactly how it works. You don’t need to pick between “it’s all in my brain” or “it’s coming from somewhere else.”
What matters is this:
When you create, you’re doing something profound for yourself.
You’re building a healthier, more resilient brain.
You’re opening channels to inspiration and insight.
You’re giving yourself permission to play, explore, and discover.
And your whole being—mind, body, emotions, spirit—benefits from it.
So pick up that brush. Write that sentence. Hum that melody. Your brain will thank you. And so will whatever it is you're tuning into.
